The Institute of Legal Informatics is in charge of the course of studies, which was the first German postgraduate course of studies in this subject area.

Necessary Documents:
For German graduates, there is a precondition for the participation in this post-graduate course of studies, which is the first state law examination. Students with a foreign degree need to have acquired a first job-qualifying legal degree comparable to the German first state law examination. According to the EU-guideline 89/48/EWG, university degrees for lawyers within Europe must be considered equivalent, if they are based upon at least three-year successful university studies. Knowledge of at least one foreign language (either english or german) needs to be proven by all applicants.
Concerning technical knowledge, we presuppose sufficient knowledge of office and internet use. Additional knowledge is imparted during the course.
Concerning the second semester in United Kingdom, special language tests (TOEFL or IELTS) are required.
Selection procedure:
Within the framework of the admission procedure, a two-tiered selection process is conducted. Some of the university places are exclusively awarded according to the criterion ‘mark of the first state law examination’. You should have an honours degree to be able to qualify for a university place in this way.
Among the remaining applicants, further students are chosen independently of their examination result. The application documents are assessed according to the criterion ‘special qualifications within the field of legal informatics’. In this case, job activities (also along with studies), internships, legal clerkships, stays abroad, seminars and publications etc. are instrumental.
All qualifications need to be proven by means of reports which clearly identify their relation with legal informatics. In order to enable us to assess your qualifications by means of your application documents, please arrange them meaningfully and explain the reasons for your application in a Letter of Motivation.
