LL.M in International and Comparative Law - Trinity College Dublin

With the increased globalisation of the last twenty years and with the rise to prominence of the international human rights movement, there has been a huge impetus for students of all nationalities towards studying areas of law with a broad international and comparative law focus. This LL.M programme offers students the chance to study from a large list of modules with a broad international and comparative law feel, many of which relate to international and regional human rights law.

Application Process

Applications to this programme are invited from graduates holding a good honours law or law based interdisciplinary degree. Admissions are made based on academic merit, with the objective of ensuring a diverse LL.M class of the highest possible academic calibre. 

Candidates are required to follow Trinity's application process, as it has been described in the Master of Laws LL.M.

Programme Structure (90 ECTS)

To complete this LL.M programme, students are required to acquire 60 ECTS worth of taught modules over two semesters (3 modules per semester). Each module on the LL.M. programme awards 10 ECTS. Students can choose from an extensive list of LL.M. modules:

• LL.M Modules (60 ECTS): Advanced Comparative Law: European Legal Systems; African Human Rights Law; The Chinese Legal System In Comparative Perspective; Comparative Constitutional Law and Theory; Comparative Criminal Procedure; Contemporary Issues in International Law; Essential Technologies - International and European Law; International Economic Law; Principles of Delaware Corporate Law; Theoretical and Comparative Criminal Law; Transitional Justice etc

• Research Dissertation (30 ECTS): The research dissertation, of a maximum of 25,000 words, may be on any theme, subject to the approval of the Director of the LL.M. degree programme and the availability of a supervisor. The dissertation counts for 33% of the degree or the equivalent of three modules. It must be submitted by June 30, 2018.
