Master of Law / Master en Droit University of Neuchâtel 

The Master of Law is designed to provide students with a better understanding of the areas of law they were introduced to at a Bachelor's level. UniNE offers a general Master of Law, however students have the opportunity to obtain a specialist degree in 8 disciplines: 'Judicial Professions', 'Business and Tax Law', 'Public Law', 'International and European Law', 'Medical Law and Biotechnology', 'Sport Law', 'Labour Law' and 'Innovation - Intellectual Property Law'.

The University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) is a French-speaking university in Switzerland, with nearly 20% of its 4380 students coming from abroad. Its Faculty of Law is internationally renowned for its legal research in several innovative areas of law, among which sport law, health law and tenancy law.

Accommodation: ALFEN SA is responsible for student housing in UniNE, offering more than 270 rooms. Alternatively, it helps students find private housing.

 

Application Process

Students with a Bachelor of Law from a Swiss university have direct access to UNINE's Master of Law. For fall semester admissions, candidates must submit their application materials before April 30, 2016, and for spring semester admissions, before November 30, 2016.

Students with a Bachelor of Law from other countries must follow two semesters of courses of Swiss law (51/52 ECTS) at a Bachelor level before starting the Master. These students can apply for fall admissions; they are advised to submit all application materials well before April 30, 2016.

• Application Fee: 100 CFH (aprox. 86 EUR) for applicants whose first degree is not from a Swiss university. Upon admission, this is deduced from their tuition fees.

• Documents: Applicants must submit the following documents: 

a) a complete application form;

b) 2 passport photos;

c) a copy of their ID;

d) a certified copy of their secondary education diploma;

e) certified copies of relevant degrees and diplomas, with an officially certified English or French translation, if the original is not in French, English, German, Italian or Spanish;

f) their transcript of records.

After their admission, students from abroad are required to ensure a study permit or visa for the duration of their studies. The procedure differs for EU/EEA students and non-EU/EEA (FR). 

 

Programme Structure (90 ECTS)

• Courses (60 ECTS): Students must choose 60 ECTS worth of courses from a pool of 75 options Students who are interested in obtaining a specialisation degree must choose 32 ECTS worth of courses from that specialisation. Most courses are taught in French, however there is a number of courses taught in English: 

Associations et organisations sportives; Biotechnologies et environnement juridique des sciences de la vie; Comparative and European Private Law; Competition Law and Policy; Droit administratif approfondi : questions choisies; Droit constitutionnel comparé et européen; Droit de la communication (FLSH); Droit de la prévoyance professionnelle; Droit des conflits armés (droit international humanitaire); Droit médical; Internal Market Law of the EU; Legal Aspects of Swiss Company Law in an Innovative Perspective; Procédure pénale; Statut personnel du sportif; Systèmes de soins et assurance maladie; The Law of External Relations of the European Union; Valorisation des droits de propriété intellectuelle et innovation etc

• Seminars (16 ECTS): Students must also take three seminar modules from a pool of 18 options: 

Droit des contrats et procès civil; Acquisition d’une société et contentieux entre actionnaires et organes; Les personnes atteintes de maladies rares et les assurances (sociales); Les nouvelles infractions dans le Code mondial antidopage; Droit des migrations (Asile et nouvelles formes de protection internationale); Droit pénal et procédure pénale; Laboratoire du développement territorial; La Suisse qui innove: A quand des Google, Apple ou Tesla suisses; Real estate transactions: when taxes meet contracts; Familles et égalité de traitement; Ebola est là: gestion locale d’une crise sanitaire de portée internationale; Logements à prix abordables: mode d’emploi etc

• Master Thesis / Memoir de Master (12 ECTS): At the end of their studies, students must submit a master thesis of about 70 pages.

• Internship: Not mandatory as part of this programme.
